Our self-developed graph and AI technology centers around connecting insights about B2B clients and providing intelligent information to our customers. Vipps, SpareBank 1, and Nordea are just a few that have had great success in using Strise.

We make an impact by making it easier and faster for banks to fulfill their mission of uncovering financial violations like money laundering. After successfully becoming trusted by many of the biggest financial institutions in Scandinavia, and securing $10M in funding from Atomico, we are now venturing into the UK, followed by the rest of Europe. We’re well on our way to becoming the global standard in anti-money laundering technology.

Strise is on the hunt for a skilled Cloud Backend Engineer who will play a critical hybrid role in designing, developing, and maintaining our backend systems while also implementing and managing our GCP infrastructure. You will ensure that our backend services are scalable, reliable, and secure, and that our cloud infrastructure grows and follows best practices.

As part of our tech team, you will work closely with our design and product team to take our products to the next level in scale, performance, and customer value. Your contributions will be crucial in our journey to leverage GCP to set new industry standards, ensuring that Strise continues to lead with future-ready products in the fight against financial crime.

This position is based in Oslo, Norway.

Strise has an HQ in Oslo and an office in London.

Some technologies we use:

• All of Strise runs in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

• For our backend services, Scala is the main programming language.

• We use gRPC and Google Pub/Sub to communicate between services.

• For external communication, we opt for GraphQL.

• Our services typically run in Kubernetes (GKE), but we’re also exploring a move towards a more serverless setup with Cloud Run.

• All of our infrastructure is Terraformed.

• One of our core tech principles is to offload as much tech as possible to managed services, effectively making it someone else's problem. We are heavy users of GCP native offerings such as Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Pub/Sub etc.

• We’ve also committed to a few other technologies such as Neo4j and Elasticsearch.

What you will do:

• Design, develop, and maintain server-side logic, APIs, and services.

• Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure solutions on GCP with a focus on security and scalability.

• Optimize our cloud infrastructure for scale and security.

• Automate deployment, monitoring, and management processes to streamline operations.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and QA, to ensure and shape the delivery of high-quality software, and provide guidance and support in deploying and maintaining applications on the cloud.

• Stay updated with burgeoning technologies, successful practices, and advancements in cloud computing and security, as well as AI.

• Contribute to the overall architecture and design of the systems, and help identify and implement best practices for software development.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in backend development with JVM languages (Java, Kotlin, Scala).

• Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including services like GKE, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud Pub/Sub, and Cloud Run.

• In-depth skills and experience with Terraform and Kubernetes.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.

• You enjoy working with an evolving product in a scale-up environment and are motivated by testing out new ideas and finding new solutions.

Bonus points if you…

• Have excellent skills and a few years of experience with one or more of the following technologies GraphQL, Neo4j, Elasticsearch. Security practices in backend development, and advanced AI/ML technologies like Vertex AI, Langchain, HuggingFace, and MLOps.

• Have prior experience from a start-up/scale-up.

• Have experience with graph databases and complex product architectures.
