3 fully-funded dual PhD fellowships in social anthropology between the University of Oslo and Makerere University (2 positions) and the University of Cape Town (1 position) are available at the Department of Social Anthropology, University of Oslo. For the positions in Oslo, moving to Norway is required and residence in or close by Oslo city is expected.
The appointed candidates will work within the collaborative EU funded doctoral training network HEALENAE: Health and Environment in Africa and Europe. The candidates will conduct fieldwork in Africa and/or Europe, participate in annual training schools and writing retreats, and complete a 6 month stay with the secondary university (in the case of the positions below, at Makerere University, Uganda and University of Cape Town, South Africa). More information about the network can be found here.
The PhD fellows will automatically be admitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences' PhD programme at the University of Oslo (UiO). The fellows will be supervised by professors at the Departments of Social Anthropology and of Health and Society. They will also be admitted to the doctoral programme of either Makerere University (MU) or the University of Cape Town (UCT), depending on the position. Separate registration processes for these universities will apply.
The appointed candidates will work within the framework of the project on one of the following areas:
