A full-time position as associate professor in Integrated Physiology is available at the Department of Physical Performance at Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH) from January 2026 or soon thereafter.
The Department of Physical Performance has a long history of basic and applied research, focusing on biological effects of physical training from molecule to integrated physiology. The research includes exercise physiology, biomechanics, technology and specific sports discipline research in collaboration with national and international sport federations and the industry.
The department is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated associate professor to provide academic teaching, and to conduct and coordinate research within the field of Integrated Physiology at NIH.
The candidate must have a strong international research profile in sports research and topics that fits with the profile at the department.
The person employed must have a PhD or equivalent in exercise physiology or similar disciplines.
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate extensive experience and technical expertise in the following areas:
High-level expertise in advanced statistical methods for data analysis and interpretation is required.
Additional experience in the assessment of intravascular volumes, blood sampling, and the application of low-pressure chambers in human studies will be considered an advantage.
The candidate must be able to document a strong record of high-quality research, along with teaching and supervision experience at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels. Emphasis will be placed on demonstrated experience and skills in collaborating on research projects with national and international research groups, as well as with sports federations or similar organizations.
It is expected that the successful applicant will take an active role in developing own research at the department but also be willing and able to cooperate across borders of research fields.
The appointee is furthermore expected to participate in the development and teaching of courses on both undergraduate and graduate level and in the supervision of bachelor, master and Ph.D. students.

A prerequisite for permanent appointment is that the applicant meets the requirements for university teaching competence. Applicants without formal university pedagogic qualification, is given the opportunity for an approved course within two years employment.
